2016 Sandpiper Pinot Gris
The wine has bright lifted aromas of nashi pears and spice. Intense pear like palate, clean citrus acid backbone. Underlying spicy character adds to the wines charm. A clean and lingering finish.
Harvest was carried out at night. The fruit was pressed (using an airbag press). After settling the juice was warmed and inoculated with a neutral yeast selected for its ability to respect the purity of the fruit.
Post fermentation the wine was stabilized, minimally fined, filtered then bottled.
A warm dry spring led to into similarly dry conditions in December and January. The warm weather brought harvest on in the first week of February. A couple of good rain events led to milder conditions slowed down the ripening and allowed the fruit to develop well. Whites from 2016 show good flavour and balance.

More of an aperitif style with a citrusy nose that has a perfumed lift and a clean crisp palate with light and delicate fruit flavours.

A 2016 Royal Adelaide Show gold medal winner and it's easy to see why. Cool climate Eden Valley fruit of pristine quality delivers a superbly balanced dry white. Lifted passionfuit / pear flavours lead the way on an entrancing palate journey right down to the final mouthful.
17.5/20 - Raymond Chan, NZ Writer, March 2017
Bright, light straw-yellow colour, pale on the edge. This has a firmly concentrated and deeply packed nose of white and yellow stonefruits along with restrained layers of minerals, unfolding nuances of pear and honeysuckle. The aromatics are refreshing and bright. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has a good core of white and yellow stonefruits entwined with subtle pear and honeysuckle nuances, and minerally elements. The mouthfeel is softly textured with fine phenolics providing grip and dryness, and the acidity is well integrated. The wine carries to a light, dry finish. This is an elegant, dry Pinot Gris with a core of stonefruit flavours on a dry, softly-textured palate. Match with Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese fare over the next 3+ years.
