2016 Mount Crawford Chardonnay
The wine is a pale straw colour with a green hue. The nose displays some complexity with white peach and citrus, complimented by underlying nutty characteristics. This is a medium weight wine with peach and citrus characters, a creamy mid palate, balanced nicely with a tight acid line. The wine finishes with balance and a good persistence.
Harvest was carried out at night. The fruit was pressed (using an airbag press). After settling the juice was warmed and inoculated with a neutral yeast selected for its ability to respect the purity of the fruit. After fermentation the yeast lees were stirred for 6 weeks (battonage). Post fermentation the wine was stabilized, minimally fined, filtered then bottled.
A warm dry spring led to into similarly dry conditions in December and January. The warm weather brought harvest on in the first week of February. A couple of good rain events led to milder conditions slowed down the ripening and allowed the fruit to develop well. Whites from 2016 show good flavour and balance.

Bright straw-yellow colour with some depth, lighter on the rim. The nose is well-proportioned with intense, deep and well-concentrated aromas of yellow stonefruits, citrus fruits and mealy elements, along with notes of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak detail. The nose retains a steely freshness. Medium-bodied, the palate possesses stylishly restrained flavours of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruit integrated with mealy and nutty notes. The mouthfeel is soft with a gently textured line and integrated acidity, and the wine flows smoothly to a moderately long, dry finish of citrus and nutty flavours. This is a stylish Chardonnay with stonefruit, citrus and mealy flavours, with nutty oak on a soft-textured palate with underlying freshness. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 3-4 years.
