2017 Eden Trail Shiraz

Vibrant red with purple tones to the edge of the glass.  Lifted blackberry, cumin and cinnamon complemented by savoury French oak.  The mid-weight elegant palate highlights black cherry and red apple with white pepper and stone fruit in the background.  Smoky supporting oak and long powdery tannins finish the wine and give the palate great elegance and complexity.

Vinification Notes

Picked during the cool of night.  An intentional minimalistic approach to winemaking to ensure the vineyard character sings.  Fermented with a small percentage of stalks and whole berries, in small open fermenters and hand worked twice daily.  Warm fermentation is followed by maturation in French oak barrels for 12-16 months (depending on parcel).  Minimal fining and filtration prior to bottling.

Vintage Notes

An above average wet spring and cooler than average summer temperatures led to a later start to picking than normal. This combined with a long and mild ripening period meant that our fruit developed to a beautiful level of maturity on the vine.  This has led to outstanding flavours and perfumed, expressive wines.  The colours are vibrant and tannins are silky with a fine savoury finish.

94 Points – James Halliday’s Wine Companion

Another very good vintage for this wine, brimming with fresh and bright fruit aromas and flavours. The plum, blackberry and red berry characters are juicy and ripe with no hint of jamminess, and there's a feeling of liveliness and buoyancy on the palate. A dash of pepper and a seasoning of oak add some complexity, and the tannin is gentle but firm enough to do its job. - Steven Creber

A super bright, light and fragrant shiraz with attractive, ripe, brambly fruit, in the blackberry and blueberry zone.
