2015 Sandpiper Chardonnay
Pale straw in colour. Grapefruit and lemon zest on the nose with green apple notes. The palate shows citrus and hints of tropical fruit. Subtle oak adds complexity and creamy notes to the palate.
Harvest was carried out at night. The fruit was pressed (using an airbag press). After settling the juice was warmed and inoculated with a neutral yeast selected for its ability to respect the purity of the fruit. After fermentation the yeast lees were stirred for 6 weeks (battonage). Post fermentation the wine was stabilized, minimally fined, filtered then bottled.
2015 Vintage was characterised by a dry period extending from July to April, together with warmer than usual temperatures during Spring until mid January. Mild temperatures from mid January resulted in a slow ripening process, the development of intense flavour and good natural aciditiy.
89 Points - The Real Review Huon Hooke
Ranked #9 out of 36 wines tasted
Fresh green herb and melon-skin aromas, fruit-driven and zesty. Straightforward, clean and crisp on the palate with green apple acidity, finishing with good persistence.

16.5/20 - Bright straw-yellow colour with light, lemon-gold hues, pale edged. The nose is tight and refreshing with uncomplicated, aromatic citrus fruit and yellow stonefruits unfolding to reveal yellow floral and nutty nuances. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate possesses light, aromatic citrus fruit, stonefruit and tropical fruit flavours that form an elegant and tightly bound core. The wine has a light textual line with some grip that guides the palate, and brisk, mouthwatering acidity lends energy, and enhances the lift. The wine flows to a thirst-quenching, zesty finish with some dry textures. This is a crisp, refreshing, citrussy, fruit-focussed Chardonnay with some textural grip and acid energy. Serve as an aperitif and with poultry over the next 3 years. Fruit from the ‘Mount Crawford’ vineyard, Eden Valley, tank fermented to 13.0% alc., a small portion aged in oak, the wine undergoing batonnage for 6 weeks.
