2010 Terra Barossa Shiraz
The colour is a deep inky purple. The nose is a complex mixture of ripe blackberry and plum fruit with a dash of creamy vanillin oak. The palate is medium to full bodied which starts with some sweet plummy fruit, the flavour then builds in the palate to provide an explosion of raspberry flavours. There is some lovely mouth coating tannins which combine with dark chocolate oak and fruit to provide a great depth and length of flavour.
The grapes are crushed and de-stemmed into fermenters. Yeast is added immediately once in fermenter, and the ferments are pumped over twice daily to maximise colour, tannin and flavour extraction. Cooling is used to ensure ferments remain in the 22-25 degrees Celsius range which will allow the fruit to display maximum fruit expression. Pressing then occurs approximately seven days after crushing and the wine is then put into predominantly American oak to mature.
12 months in American oak.
The 2010 vintage followed good winter rainfall in 2009 and allowed vineyards to commence the 2010 season with good soil moisture levels. This soil moisture, combined with moderate weather conditions throughout most of the growing season allowed for good fruit set and canopy development. In summary an excellent vintage, with very little extreme weather resulting in fantastic colour and flavour in red varietals, and excellent acid and flavour profiles for whites.

90 Points - Very ripe, dense aromas of dark berries and plums are lifted by scents of violets and lightly toasty vanilla/cedar oak. Generous and sweetly fruited, It's a wonderfully opulent Barossa shiraz with a pleasing length of flavour and restrained oak that finishes with a lingering core of vibrant, juicy fruit, a hint of licorice and a refreshing acidity.
Cuisine, June 2012 (New Zealand)
4 Stars - This wine from Thorn-Clarke is a consistent winner in our tastings. Aromas reminiscent of blackberries, vanilla cream, mild spice and mocha lead through a ripe, medium-bodied palate of agreeable softness. Hearty, meaty pasta dishes work well with this satisfying, mellow drop.
The Age, Epicure, June 2012
4 Stars - A perennially reliable, moderately priced, quality Barossa Shiraz. This follows a satisfying theme: dark berries, plums, chocolate, a dab of vanillin oak, juicy balance, medium body, smooth texture and depth in the mouth. A savoury backbone of finely textured sandy tannins completes the picture.

90 Points - Strong purple-crimson; the sheer consistency of the Thorn-Clarke wines is remarkable; this medium bodied wine brings together gently ripe blackberry and plum fruit; fine grained tannins and a wisp of oak. Great over the next five years.
