2017 Barossa Grenache Shiraz

While traditional red wines from Australia are still popular, the last 5 years has seen a significant move towards more elegant and mid weighted wines. Our blend of Grenache and Shiraz is a vibrant style inspired by the heritage of the Barossa overlaid with a more elegant profile. It shows a savoury and spicy profile with vibrant red colour, red berries and a long and textured medium bodied palate.
An above average wet spring and cooler than average summer temperatures led to a later start to picking than normal. This combined with a long and mild ripening period meant that our fruit developed to a beautiful level of maturity on the vine. This has led to outstanding flavours and perfumed, expressive wines. The colours are vibrant and tannins are silky with a fine savoury finish.
The Grapes are crushed and destemmed into fermenters, with a small parcel of whole bunch ferment using the Old Vine Barossa Grenache. The ferments are pumped over twice daily to maximize colour, tannin and flavour extraction. Each parcel is fermented separately and is left on skins for up to 10 days when the ferment is pressed and transferred to barrel. The wine is then left to mature in old oak for up to 12 months. Parcels are then selected for their elegance and bottled fresh and young to lock in the flavour.
