2010 Shotfire Cabernet Shiraz

Comments

The 2010 Shotfire Cabernet Shiraz has a dense aroma of blackberries, cedar and spice. The palate is medium to full bodied in weight and displays ripe plum and cassis characters. The wine has an elegant but soft structure.

Vinification Notes

The fruit was harvested at night. Fermentation was carried out in a variety of small capacity fermenters. After pressing the wine was filled to a mix of French and American oak for maturation.

Maturation

The wine was matured for 12 months in a blend of French and American hogsheads (barrels).

Blend

56% Cabernet, 44% Shiraz

Vintage Notes

Average winter rainfall in 2009 resulted in good soil moisture in the 2010 growing season. This combined with moderate weather conditions through most of the growing season allowed for good fruit set and canopy development.

2010 Shotfire Cabernet Shiraz

Wine Spectator, September Issue, 2013

90 Points

Tony Love, Herald Sun (Melbourne) 11/12/2012

5 Stars: 'This wine has starred in the past two years at the specialist "Great Australian Red" awards. It's dark, brooding, and marries blackberry highlights with rich plum and chocolate notes, the oak and mouthfeel equally neatly chiselled.'

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, June 2012

91 Points: 'Another winner and sensational, the 2010 Shotfire Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon and 44% Shiraz. A whopper of a wine, it is deep ruby/purple and possesses loads of glycerin and full body along with stunning notes of wood spice, graphite, blackberry and pepper. Rich, chewy, and dense, in a typically bold, exuberant Aussie style, this is a wine to drink over the next 6-10 years.'

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar Magazine 2012

89 Points: 'Opaque ruby. Ripe blackcurrant and cherry aromas are complicated by notes of licorice, vanilla and lavender. Sappy and smoth in texture, offering sweet dark berry flavours and a hint of cracked pepper. Quite rich but not at all heavy, finishing with persistent sweetness and spiciness.'

Tyson Stelzer, The Great Australian Red 2011

93 Points: 'There's real Barossa class on display at this affordable price. It's luscious and rich with plums, dark berries, black jubes and liquorice supported by firm, fine tannins and finishing with impressive line and length. Drink 2014-2018.'
