What to expect from our new vintage 2018 William Randell wines

The 2018 growing season had all the hallmarks of a classic vintage. Consistent warm temperatures produced perfect conditions for our red varieties to ripen. This along with good winter rains and a dry harvest period resulted in wines with great depth of varietal flavours, excellent tannin structure and colour along with a long balanced finish. Reds from 2018 will age well due to their intense concentration and power.

Our 2018 William Randell Cabernet Sauvignon is dark red in colour with a bright edge. Highly perfumed nose of blackcurrant, violets and leafy undertones. The palate shows varietal purple fruits and mulled spice. The complex oak and integrated tannin leads to an excellently poised wine. A wine which is refined and balanced, walking a fine line of elegance and power.

The 2018 Shiraz shows a deep and inky red in colour. The nose is lifted with a bouquet of black cherry, rich plum and brambles. Further aromas of five spice and licorice are paired with integrated oak notes. The palate is plush with powerful mouth filling fruit. Dense blackberry, spiced oak and long powdery tannins give this wine epic length.

Our 2018 William Randell Shiraz has already been well received in the wine show circuit, receiving asilver medalat the 2021 Perth Royal Wine Awards and scoring98 Points/Equal Top in Categoryin the Winestate World’s Greatest Shiraz/Syrah XVI Wine Show 2021.

What to expect from our new vintage 2017 Ron Thorn Single Vineyard Shiraz

 An above average wet spring and cooler than average summer temperatures in our 2017 growing season led to a later start to picking than normal. This combined with a long and mild ripening period meant that our fruit developed to a beautiful level of maturity on the vine. This has led to outstanding flavours and perfumed, expressive wines. The colours are vibrant and tannins are silky with a fine savoury finish.

Dense in colour and with impressive fruit presence, the 2017 Ron Thorn Shiraz is a true expression of variety and region. Deep red-purple in colour and almost inky in depth. The nose shows dark berries, liquorice, mocha and spice with background notes of dark chocolate and smoky oak. Intense and mouth filling, the palate shows blackberry, cocoa and coffee characters with long, balanced tannins tying the structure together. This is a rich and complex wine that will cellar for years to come.
